How many movies can claim to be inspired by one line of dialogue from a TV show? What started as a memorable Sex and the City quip morphed into a best-selling book and is now a movie about the interlocking love lives of Baltimore-based twenty- and thirtysomethings. The cast includes (deep breath) Affleck, Aniston, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Connelly, Kevin Connolly, Bradley Cooper, Ginnifer Goodwin, Scarlett Johansson and Justin Long. The film pokes at some dark romantic truths: Just because you might be head over heels for someone, that doesn’t mean they share your feelings; seemingly happy committed relationships can disintegrate; and, more often than not, dating in today’s technological word can be tough. If we have one quibble with the film, it’s the idea that women as cute as Goodwin have a hard time getting a second date (or that all women are desperate to be coupled off). But no matter — the cast is so charming it’s impossible not to get sucked in.
