Jack LaLanne, Fitness Guru, Dies at 96

Before there was The Biggest Loser and Jillian Michaels, there was one fitness icon known as Jack. Check that, Jack LaLanne. So if you're pumping iron and consistently in shape, what could be better than living a full robust life for almost a century? The famous fitness man died yesterday at 96.

After being stricken with pneumonia, Jack eventually died from respiratory failure in his home. Most known for being a fitness pioneer, breathing life into others has been has claim to fame. He opened his first exercise studio in 1936 and focused on weight training.

This was considered taboo at the time when trainers believed bulking up would slow down athletes and women were supposed to focus on looking curvy instead of athletic and toned. Jack once stated, "Back then, women weren't supposed to use weights. I guess I was a pioneer."
The pioneer launched an exercise show on TV in the 1950s that lasted through the 1970s! He also opened gyms which beared his name. To propel people to exercise, he once said, "Inactivity is a killer. The only way you can hurt your body is to not use it."
