'Jersey Shore' Will End After The Upcoming Sixth Season

It's better to burn out then fade away, right?
Today MTV executives announced that the upcoming sixth season of The Jersey Shore will be its last. While attention to the show and its stars may have appeared to hit a high point due to Snooki's epic pregnancy and various spin-offs, those at the network say ratings have declined significantly in recent years.
The premiere for its swansong season will air on Oct. 4, but hardcore fans can enjoy an all-day marathon and hour-long retrospective (if you will) titled "Gym, Tan, Look Back" on Sept. 6 at 6 pm on MTV.
The cast will then gather at 7 pm to chat for an hour about the previous season, which seems an appropriate lead-in to the MTV Video Music Awards which will air that evening. In honor of the awards show, the network will dole out awards for the series's highpoints including "Best Bromance."

That being said, those of you who can't picture a world without your favorite guidos, fear not, MTV has already renewed Snooki & JWoww for a second season. Still no word, however, on whether The Pauly D Project will be so lucky.
