If it truly is the thought that counts when it comes to gift-giving, John Mayer should stop thinking and just hand out gift certificates.
According to a story in this morning's NY Post, when the singer was dating Jessica Simpson a few years back, he was unable to celebrate her birthday with her so he sent her a little something to remember him by — quite literally.
"It was a DVD of him in concert," the paper quotes a source as saying. "Jessica spent the rest of the night watching the DVD on a loop, 'being with him.' It was so sad."

Of course, considering that Tony Romo's most recent birthday gift for Jessica was to break up with her the night before, the idea of sitting around watching a John Mayer DVD on repeat doesn't sound so awful.
