Josh Hutcherson Talks About His 'Amazing' Rescue Pit Bull

Hunger Games actor Josh Hutcherson wanted a dog as fierce and loyal as his character in the popular trilogy, so he decided on the most "beautiful" breed around — pit bulls.

"He was actually going to be euthanized the day after I got him," he told OK! at the GLAAD Media Awards in L.A. about his new dog, Driver. "So it was kind of perfect timing how it worked out. There are so many dogs, so many puppy mills and you go to these shelters and you see these beautiful, great dogs that are about to be put down for no reason. And then people buy new dogs and it doesn’t make sense."
So how is the dog adjusting to his new life with a movie star?

"He is fantastic. He is literally the best puppy that I’ve met in my entire life," he gushed. "He’s fun when he wants to play and then snuggles up. He’s like the perfect dog. He’s amazing."
In addition to rescue dogs, Josh also counts gay rights as another one of his passions.

"I had two great uncles that passed away to AIDS and they were a huge influence in my mother’s life," he said. "So for me, you know ever since I was born, I’ve been fighting for equal rights. It’s engrained in my soul."
Fans of The Hunger Games can look forward to Josh reprising his role of Peeta in November 2013, when the second installment, Catching Fire, is scheduled to be released.
