Some researcher at TODAY likely lost their job today as Kathie Lee Gifford embarrassingly asked Martin Short how he and his wife Nancy maintain such a great marriage... regardless of the fact Nancy died from cancer two years ago.

"You and Nancy have one of the greatest marriages in show business," began Kathie. "How long have you been together? You're still in love! How?"
Martin — the consummate professional — kept a straight face the entire time and deadpanned that he was "madly in love" and kept their 36-year marriage in tact because "I'm cute."
After the commercial break, a somber Kathie Lee told viewers that Martin pulled her aside and informed her that Nancy had in fact passed away in 2010 from ovarian cancer.

"Nancy would have wanted to keep the conversation going," Martin told Kathie, adding that he had a "great marriage" and "still does." Aw.
