I was out chasing parties post MTV Movie Awards last night and today my head is in the clouds – literally. I came home a couple of hour prior to sunrise to write and pack, change my party dress in favor of comfy plane clothes and I’m now blogging from 35,000ft. Courtesy of Virgin America’s high-speed WiFi in the sky, I haven’t missed a beat at work today, or been able to catch a wink of sleep :/

In any case, it’s been a week. The grey days in LA as of late I’m told are ‘June Gloom’ so, seasonal affective disorder self-diagnosed as I am (and because it happens to be grandmother’s 85th birthday soiree), I got out of dodge and am headed to the sunnier skies of NYC.

The family is in for quite a surprise when I show up, not only unannounced, but with a mini-makeover. A couple of weeks ago I went to Prive for ‘a trim’ and walked out with Laurent cutting about 12 inches cut off my bangs, creating bangs. I’ve since been told ‘they’re in’ this season. So nice to be trendy. Ken Paves is coming out with clip on bangs he’s selling on QVC June 5 and June 6 for those who would rather try them out first. When I spoke to him last week he told me he tested them on Jennifer Lopez for a couple of days and she loved them so much she could wait to make them permanent.

A few days later I went to visit my friend Wells Butler from Primp (the animal-printed bejeweled travel clothes of choice for elite celebs from Britney to Paris) at pre-MTV Movie Awards suite Melanie Segal was hosting at a house in the hills and I was talked into allowing Makeup Mandy to glue a few eyelash extensions on. Especially since my lashes are an unattractive blonde I was curious – but lost the lashes to my pillows, my shower, my sink and my clothes over the next 36 hours. Maybe next time I’ll be bolder and try the more permanent variety.

Next stop, the Kick-Off to Summer Party at the Byron and Tracey Salon in Beverly Hills that was beautifully outfitted in Teleflora flowers bursting with colors. While at the salon catching up with Little Miss Sunshine herself Abigail Breslin while colorist to the stars Tracey Cunningham made her locks pop with a bit more red, Yvonne offered to add some golden hues to my mousy blonde hair as well. It was a great way to start the day, chatting with Abigail while we both had head full of foils.

Pampering didn’t stop there. As soon our hair was washed and blown out Toby Fleischman made us pretty applying COVERGIRL to our fresh faces. Afterwards we were swept through the courtyard and gifted Express Maxi dresses (I already own a collection of candy colors I’ve purchased previous summers) and Carrera Vintage sunglasses (she got red, I got gold).

When my ‘work’ at the salon was done, I bid Abigail adieu, grabbed a shot of Café Bustelo and headed to the office. Hope the fam likes the Jen Summer Edition ;) xo
