Amid speculation that Mariah Carey, 41, is expecting her first child with hubby Nick Cannon, the actor opens up about his family plan and how he has kept his marriage solid during their child-free years.
When asked last month about plans for children in the future, the 29-year-old star who got his start on Nickelodeon’s All That brushed off plans to adopt.
“I’ve never really thought about adopting,” he tells me. “That’s never really come up. But marriage, you want to have a family, that’s one of the reasons to get married. When the timing is right.”
Hmm, what excites him about becoming a dad one day?
“I don’t know,” he says. “Those are deep questions. I haven’t thought about those questions yet.”
Although the couple has made no secret of their desire to start a family since they wed on April 30, 2008, they’ve relished their child-free years by renewing their vows and holding true to other traditions.
“The 30th of every month is ‘I love you’ day,” he tells me. “We celebrate with cards, gifts, flowers.”

Renewing their vows is their personal way of affirming their commitment to one and other.
“It’s about celebration. You’ve gotta have fun. That’s what it’s all about. I don’t do anything unless I’m having fun doing it, so you’ve gotta make sure your relationship is fun and you enjoy every day of this. It should never feel like a task. Ultimately, it’s a party where you get to dress up.”
But their union isn’t only special on those 13 days of the year, naming “his wife, life and waking up every morning” as his top blessings.
“You’ve gotta appreciate life, and then when you can share your life with somebody else, that’s even more reason to smile.”
Plus, he loves Mariah even when she’s lounging around makeup-free.
“I like casual,” he says. “Obviously, the glamorous diva-ish look is amazing, but I like waking up to her. I like actually looking at her when she wakes up.”
He attributes their success as a couple to a shared gratitude.
“We enjoy each other. We have fun. We have a sense of humor. We understand each other.”
We're looking forward to their bundle of joy.
