Mariah Carey is one of the best-selling singers in the world, as famous for her sexy looks as for her vocal range, but the 40-year-old still struggles with her self-image.
“Growing up and being half-black, half-white, I felt weird; I didn’t look like anybody. My friends were all different from me,” Mariah told StyleList.com of her childhood insecurities. “No one knew how to fix my hair. My facial features stood out. And I know we [mixed people] all say that. But even though I’ve grown since, some of those things still remain with me.”
Now happily married to Nick Cannon, 29, and celebrating the release of her twelfth studio album, “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel” as well as the launch of her third fragrance, Forever by Mariah Carey, the diva has left those awkward years behind.
Meanwhile, she’s getting rave reviews for her pared-down performance in Precious, hitting theaters on Nov. 6. The movie was executive produced by Oprah Winfrey and required Mariah to appear on camera without a lick of makeup.
