After fighting extradition to the United States since 2006, Larry Williams, father of actress Michelle Williams, has agreed to leave Australia and return to America to face tax evasion charges, according to the Associated Press.

The 65-year-old was arrested in 2006 in Australia when he arrived in Sydney to conduct a speaking tour, and has been free on bail since that time. The IRS has been investigationg claims that he didn’t pay $1.5 million in taxes between 1990 and 2001.

Sydney’s The Daily Telegraph says Larry Williams, a resident of the Virgin Islands, is set to return to L.A. on Wednesday.

”I will fight this and win,” he was quoted as saying before he was escorted from court by sheriffs. ”I will be back – I have a lot of friends here in Australia.”

Michelle has had a tough year, after losing the father of her 3-year-old daughter Matilda, ex Heath Ledger, in January to an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. Since then  she’s also had to fight for Matilda to benefit from Heath’s will, which was drawn up before his daughter’s birth.
