The star of How I Met Your Mother and upcoming Smurfs movie revealed this past weekend on Twitter that he and partner David Burtka are engaged! Not only that, Neil Patrick Harris mentioned they proposed to each other about five years ago and have been wearing engagement rings since then, too.

For starters, on Friday night Neil tweeted his excitement after the New York senate passed the Marriage Equality Bill. He wrote, "It PASSED! Marriage equality in NY!! Yes!! Progress!! Thank you everyone who worked so hard on this!! A historic night!"

As noted by PopEater, one of David's followers simply tweeted: "So propose to your bf" which prompted David to respond. "I've already purposed, he said yes! Thank god!" David tweeted again, "he proposed to me as well. I said yes! Thank god!"

Neil tweeted the happy news as well: "David and I did propose to each other, but over five years ago! We've been wearing engagement rings for ages, waiting for an available date."
