2013 has been a major year for Miley Cyrus and her controversies. There was the ever-shorter hair, the big break-up, the insane performance at the VMAs, the joint-lighting at the EMAs. But this year is hardly the first time the former Hannah Montana courted some scandal.

Reach way back to 2009, when the world had been taken over by "Party in the USA." Miley performed the song at the Teen Choice Awards that year, and caused a stir when she wore tiny shorts and... danced on a pole. To be fair, the pole was a stabilizer for her to ride across the stage on a pretend ice-cream truck. But all it took was one dipping dance move—and the fact that she was only 16 at the time—to create an outcry.
