The actress tells People ,"After much consideration, I underwent a double mastectomy. Luckily, I don't have to undergo radiation or chemo. My family call me Kat because I always land on my feet and thankfully this is no exception."
While this time has not been easy for the 64-year-old who won the Best Actress Oscar in 1991 for Misery, she is rather positive and upbeat about the coming days ahead.

"My doctors have assured me I'm going to be around for a long time," she says. "I'm looking forward to getting back to work doing what I love to do."
And one of the things she has to look forward to is the 64th annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Sept. 23. She is nominated for outstanding actress in a drama for her role on Harry's Law and outstanding guest actress in a comedy for CBS' hit Two and a Half Men.
