A new docuseries set to begin airing on September 12 reveals police had investigated a shocking theory in the grisly murder of 6-year-old pageant princess JonBenét Ramsey nearly 20 years ago.

According to retired FBI profiler Gregg McCrary, bedwetting had become a “chronic problem” and “nightly occurrence” for Ramsey.

Investigators theorized that the little girl’s mom, Patsy, was “distressed” by the problem, which can sometimes be a signal of sexual abuse and may have flown into a rage and struck her daughter on the evening she was killed.

“She had wet the bed again that night, according to the investigator,” noted McCrary.

“Their theory is that Patsy became upset, struck JonBenét, and maybe accidentally hit her harder than she intended to,” he added.

Police speculated that JonBenét’s mother came up with a plan to cover up the tragic accident.

But will detectives finally uncover the real truth behind the murder that has enthralled a nation for decades? Find out September 12th when JonBenét: An American Murder Mystery, a three night series, airs at 10/9c on Investigation Discovery.
