Queen Elizabeth II had quite the historic visit to Ireland today: The British royal's visit to the country is the first by a monarch since Ireland gained its independence from the United Kingdom in 1917. She and Prince Philip were greeted by Irish President Mary McAleese at the Aras an Uachtarain, the official residence of the President of Ireland in Dublin.

The amount of security in the Irish capital is said to be very high right now, as Republicans are unhappy about the British monarch's visit.
