When Donald Faison and wife CaCee Cobb welcomed their first child together Thursday, he was showered with love from her best friend Jessica Simpson, whose 15-month-old daughter Maxwell inspired CaCee to become a mom. (Bonus: The new arrival also has an instant BFF in her six-week-old son Ace!)

“Maxwell is such a beautiful child,” Donald Faison, 39, tells me during EA’s Real Racing 3 event in San Diego. “I think anybody who has spent any time with Maxwell or any baby—once you feel the love from a tiny baby who’s pretty much helpless in your arms, once you feel their love and their trust in you, you want that for yourself.”

Not only is Jessica spoiling her in “every and any way,” but she is expected to be named as a godparent. (“I hope so,” he says.) Plus, the little guy will also get backup from one of his Scrubs co-stars.
“I asked Zach Braff to be the godfather,” says Donald, who has three children from a previous marriage. “I wish that would happen. We’ll see.”

“There’s going to be a lot of kids running around,” he says. “It’s cool that my child will be born into a group of friends the day he is born. I think that’s what it’s about. The say it takes a village to raise a kid, and slowly but surely, we’re building our own little village, too.”
Still, Donald and CaCee will be fine on their own.

“She’s the most amazing person I’ve ever met—I love her,” he says. “I know she’ll be a great mom because of that. I’m excited to be on this journey with her, and experience everything with her for the first time. I pray every night that it’s going to be wonderful, and I have a feeling that it will.”
