Celebrating the New Year just got easier for Vinny Guadagnino, who takes the Polar Bear Plunge for the second time Tuesday at Coney Island in NYC.
“This is like my new tradition,” he tells me. “’It’s a great highlight of the year, and a way to kick off the New Year.”
Gearing up for the arctic dip takes preparation for the 25-year-old reality star, whose MTV spinoff, The Show With Vinny, will begin this year.
“Last year when I did it, I was a little nervous, and I didn’t really know how to prepare,” he says with a laugh. “I didn’t know if I had to take cold showers for a while, but pretty much, Cold-EEZE is sponsoring me, so I would take a Cold-EEZE anyway, if I was doing something like this. I’m concerned about not getting sick, and I just double-up on Cold-EEZE for a good week before, and afterwards, too — that prevents me from getting sick.”
Hm, what will he do differently this time around?
“I’ll definitely take the Cold-EEZE more,” he says.
Coping with the extreme temperature drop must be difficult.
“I just jump in and out,” he says. “It’s pretty good. You get a rush when you’re there because there are so many people doing it. There’s little kids doing it. It’s definitely like a shot of adrenaline. It’s a cool thing. It doesn’t affect you that much — you just have to go in, and do it, and jump back out.”
He adds, “Afterwards, as soon as I get out, I have a towel waiting for me, and I dry off quickly. That’s it — and then, I just chill. It’s not that bad, if you dry off quickly and you do it quickly.”
Funds raised for Vinny’s Polar Bear Plunge benefit Camp Sunshine, which provides respite, support, joy and hope to children with life-threatening illnesses and their immediate families.
