Randy Jackson has high hopes for Simon Cowell as fatherhood approaches.

“He’s going to be amazing as a dad,” the last remaining American Idol judge, who will serve as a mentor next season, tells me Tuesday during the Novak Djokovic Foundation Gala Dinner at Capitale in NYC. “But I don’t know that it will necessarily change him.”

Simon is expecting a boy with Lauren Silverman, who recently divorced his friend.

Although he has been dubbed Mr. Nasty for his interaction with contestants on American Idol and X-Factor, Randy doesn’t think he’ll be as hard on his own son.

“He’s mad cool,” he says. “You see a couple sides to him, but he’s a mad cool, very deep-thinking guy. I think lots of times he’s sitting by the fireplace reading a romance novel. He’s a very different guy than what you know.”

And what advice would he give Simon’s little one?

“I’m Uncle Randy,” he says. “I’d tell the kid, look: we’ve got to hang, we’ve got to roll, I gotta help the kid with his shoe game, and his life will be epic because I’m in it.”
