Bob Hoskins, best known from his role in the 1988 blockbuster Who Framed Roger Rabbit, has passed from complications from pneumonia, his publicist confirmed Wednesday. He was 71.

A UK native, Hoskins began acting in the early 1970s. He garnered some fame in his home country thanks to roles in A Long Good Friday and Brazil—and even managed to snag an Oscar Nomination (and Golden Globe and BAFTA wins) for his role in 1976's Mona Lisa. But it wasn't until he acted with a cartoon rabbit that he really broke through in the United States. The film became the 2nd highest grossing movie in 1988 (behind Rainman) and spawned a million quotable lines, still heard today. (You think "I'm not bad, I'm just drawn that way" came out of nowhere?)

He followed Roger Rabbit with several beloved films, like Hook and Mermaids—and cult faves like Super Mario Bros. and Spice World. All in all, he had nearly 150 roles under his belt by the time he retired from acting in 2012, following a devastating diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease in 2011.
