Roberts Blossom, 'Home Alone' Actor, Dies at 87

Roberts Blossom, a veteran actor who played the old next door neighbor with the white beard in Home Alone who became Macaulay Culkin's pal, has died in Santa Monica, Calif. He was 87 years-old.

"That's certainly the one he gained the most recognition from, and people still remember him from that," said his daughter, Deborah Blossom. Although that role may have been his claim to fame, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, he won three Obie Awards for performances in off-Broadway productions in the 1950s, '60s and '70s. If it seems like this man did it all, well, that's because he did! In addition to Broadway as well, he starred in the 1974 cult horror movie, Deranged, and played a deranged farmer who dug up corpses.

Roberts also made his mark in Hollywood as a character actor and appeared in The Great Gatsby, Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Doc Hollywood. Lastly, he appeared on TV shows such as Moonlighting, Northern Exposure and In the Heat of the Night.
