Ryan O'Neal has just released this statement regarding the passing of longtime love Farrah Fawcett today: "After a long and brave battle with cancer, our beloved Farrah has passed away. Although this is an extremely difficult time for her family and friends, we take comfort in the beautiful times that we shared with Farrah over the years and the knowledge that her life brought joy to so many people around the world.”
Ryan and Farrah had been together, but never married, since 1982, and have a son, Redmond O'Neal, together. In an interview set to air Friday night on ABC's 20/20, Ryan tells host Barbara Walters that he had asked Farrah to be his wife and she had agreed.
Farrah was first diagnosed with cancer in 2006. In Feb. 2007, after undergoing chemotheraphy and other treatments, she was judged to be cancer-free. However, a new tumor appeared in May 2007 and she once again began treatment.
