Looks like it was Katie Holmes who pulled the trigger.

Minutes after Katie's attorney revealed to the world that she and her husband of five years, Tom Cruise, were divorcing, the Rock of Ages star released his own statement.
"Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children," his rep said in a statement. "Please allow them their privacy."
While the split may seem sudden, Katie and Tom haven't walked the red carpet together since February and were last seen together in April. Meanwhile, Katie's been spotted solo or with Suri shopping in New York City while Tom was busy promoting his latest film, Rock of Ages.

That being said, the couple were never at a loss when it came to complimenting one another. Katie claimed Tom was her celebrity crush since childhood, while Tom told Oprah Winfrey in 2005 that their relationship "just happened."

"I kept looking at Katie and thinking, 'This woman's amazing.' I'm happy that I'm with her," he said. "She's amazing, and I'd think the same of her even if she wasn't with me. She's just amazing."
