While Catherine was casting for the role of Edward in Twilight she got a call about a guy from London, she recalled to Newsweek.
“I looked at a couple pictures and was like, ‘I’m not sure,’?” Catherine explained. “He had been fired from his last job, he was unemployed, he was in debt.”
Rob even spent his own money to fly in to read the part opposite Kristen.
“I have footage of their first meeting at my dining-room table,” she said. “Kristen was like, ‘It’s got to be Rob!’ "
"She felt connected to him from the first moment," Catherine explained. "That electricity, or love at first sight, or whatever it is."

Rob and Kristen actually kissed for the first time for their screen test on the director's bed at her Malibu, Calif. home!
But before Rob was given the role, Catherine made him make a promise to her.
"You've got to realize that Kristen is 17 years old," she told the actor, who is four years older than Kristen. "She's underage."
"You've got to focus, dude, or you're going to be arrested," she warned. "I made him swear on a stack of Bibles."
