'Vampire Diaries' Recap: Elena is Held Captive By the Originals & Meredith Shoots Spoiler!
Feb. 17 2012, Published 1:06 p.m. ET
If you thought Elena (Nina Dobrev) was in love with Stefan (Paul Wesley), think again. Last night's episode of The Vampire Diaries proved that Mystic Falls' little doppelganger will always have feelings for Damon (Ian Somerhalder), even if she refuses to admit it!
The episode starts off with Elena going to apologize to Damon, you know, for telling him it was "a problem" that he loved her, and literally witnessing Rebekah's (Claire Holt) walk of shame! (Now that's got to hurt). Elena goes off on Damon, who seems to be totally unphased by her jealousy, before Stefan arrives and warns Elena not to do anything to get in Esther's (Alice Evans) way when it comes to killing the originals. Like she'd listen.

In other news, Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Abby (Persia White) decide to help Esther destroy Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and her other children by lending their witchy blood line to her spell. But Elijah (Daniel Gillies) knows something's up with mommy dearest and tries to find out what it is by talking with his buddy Elena about what she knows about Esther's plans. Once Elena finally confesses that Esther is planning on killing all of his siblings, Elijah kidnaps her and sticks her in an underground dungeon with, you guessed it, Rebekah. He then goes off and tells Damon and Stefan that Rebekah will kill Elena if they don't find a way to stop Bonnie and Abby from helping Esther.
Meanwhile, at the Mystic Grill, Alaric (Matt Davis) and Meredith (Torrey DeVitto) are enjoying a romantic date while Klaus and his brother Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic) are enjoying a stiff drink. That is until Caroline (Candice Accola) walks in and steals Klaus' attention with her beautiful gaze and "you can't have this attitude." The pair seem to be hitting it off until Klaus finds out Alaric, under the guidance of Damon and Stefan, stabbed Kol with a dagger, thus causing all of his siblings to drop dead for a couple minutes. Klaus, who isn't as affected by the stab wound, pulls the dagger out of Kol and realizes that something fishy is going on.

So, now that the Salvatore brothers first attempt to stop Esther failed, they decide that the only thing to do is get to Bonnie and Abby. While Stefan distracts Bonnie, Damon breaks Abby's neck and, yup, turns her into a vampire. Her "death" breaks Esther's spell and saves the original clan, as well as darling Elena.

Someone else who was not so lucky though was Alaric, who discovers that Meredith is the silent assassin, aka vampire slayer, in town and thus gets shot by Mystic Falls' sketchy doctor. Poor guy can't catch a break.
Oh, and did we mention that Stefan confesses to Damon that he hasn't drank human blood since he tried to kill Elena on the bridge where her parents died? That's right, "good" Stefan is making a return!
