Growing up quickly, Vanessa Hudgens has been chosen for a new, more adult type of role as she gets set to star as a stripper in the musical rendition of Rent this summer.
According to Gossip Cop, the 21-year-old, who is best know for her role in the High School Musical movie series, was chosen by first time director Neil Patrick Harris right away.

“She came in for a work session, and I must say, Vanessa really impressed,” Neil revealed in a statement.
Neil was assured that Vanessa would be dedicated to playing the part of an HIV-positive dancer, Mimi, in the play.

“She looks amazing, has great vocal chops, and seems really committed to honoring the somewhat iconic role of Mimi.”
Neil, who stars in the Emmy nominated show How I Met Your Mother, previously played the role of Mark in Rent.

The rock-opera will debut at the Hollywood Bowl in L.A. starting on August 6.
