By now everyone's seen the video (below) of Will Smith in Moscow playfully smacking a Ukrainian reporter across the face when he attempted to kiss the Men In Black 3 star on the lips.

Apparently, the reporter — a journalist for the program 1+1 — attempts to kiss every celebrity on the red carpet as part of his "interview." His handlers apologized to Will and called the lippy move his "shtick."

While the slap was nothing more than a childish swipe, the video circulated the web Friday and over the weekend, prompting David Letterman to ask the actor about the incident last night on his show, wondering if he "beat up" the reporter.

"I didn't beat up a guy!" Will said. "I was in Moscow and ... we're doing an interview and he says, 'Man ...,' he was a reporter and he says, 'I'm your biggest fan, can I have a hug, please? So I go to give this joker a hug and he tries to lean in to kiss me, you know? And ... it's just awkward, Dave. They were like 'We're sorry, you know, it's just his shtick.' and I said, 'That's why his a** got shtuck."
