They are now grandparents to four grandchildren, and Billy has often spoken about how becoming a father changed his outlook on life.
"When I first became a dad back in [1973], Janice was working, and I was starting my career as a stand-up at night," he said in another interview.
"So, during the day, I was 'Mr. Mom' and that changed my life totally," he stated.

Billy Crystal turned memories of his longtime family home into Broadway show '860.'
Family remains an important part of Billy's life, particularly following the loss of the couple's longtime Pacific Palisades home in the January 2025 wildfires.
They had lived there for 46 years, raising their daughters and creating decades of memories.
Now, those experiences have helped inspire Billy's Broadway show, 860, named after the street number of their former home.
The production explores themes of family, friendship, love and loss, with Janice also serving as a producer.
When Whoopi asked about working alongside his wife, he had one more joke ready.
"I'm sleeping with the producer… an old Hollywood story," he quipped.
