Brandy let fans in on her heartbreaking final conversation with Whitney Houston.
On the Wednesday, April 1, episode of Good Morning America, the actress, 47, revealed she had a “lengthy phone call” with the singer two days before her accidental drowning death in 2012.
Brandy spoke with Whitney Houston shortly before her death.
“It mattered so much to me because I got a chance to tell her everything I hadn’t told her, just how much she inspired me, how much I loved her, her impact on my life,” Brandy explained. “It was an emotional conversation. I didn’t know it was going to be my last time speaking to her.”
Host Robin Roberts pointed out Brandy’s hope that Houston — who reportedly used cocaine and other drugs before her death — would “turn it around.”
“Turn it around, and then also have a friendship with her that I hadn’t had in a long time,” Brandy added.
Brandy Started Off as a Fan of Whitney Houston

Brandy idolized Whitney Houston growing up.
In an excerpt from her memoir, Phases, shared with The Cut, the “Right Here” artist expressed just how much her friendship with Houston meant to her. Growing up in Carson, Calif., she dreamed of meeting the music icon, whom she considered her “North Star.” She first heard Houston singing “Greatest Love of All” on television and was captivated by her presence.
“When this woman — this vision — appeared onscreen, something magnetic pulled me forward. I rose without thinking, drawn by some invisible force, and positioned myself mere inches from the screen, so close I could feel the static electricity kissing my cheeks,” Brandy recalled.

Brandy reflected on her relationship with Whitney Houston in her memoir.
She continued, “Watching how Whitney wielded her instrument, how her voice reached into people’s chests and rearranged things inside them, flipped a switch deep within me. I knew with bone-deep certainty what I wanted — no, what I was born to do. I was born to sing like Whitney. I was born to make people feel the way she made me feel.”

Brandy guest-starred on 'Good Morning America.'
That admiration eventually transformed into friendship, as the ladies starred together as Cinderella and her Fairy Godmother in Cinderella.
Brandy's Body Went 'Limp' Upon Learning of Whitney Houston's Death

Whitney Houston died from an accidental drowning.
Brandy was crushed when Houston passed away.
“I felt my body go limp, then I fell to the floor, convulsing with sobs. I could faintly make out the sound of my mom on the receiver trying her hardest to soothe me through the phone,” she wrote. “My heart didn’t just break; it disintegrated.”
However, the 47-year-old is determined to preserve her friend’s legacy.
“Whitney would always be with me — in every note I sang, in every challenge I faced, in every moment I chose courage over fear,” she concluded.
