Dolly Parton's Cause of Death Confirmed as Cancer After Singer's Quick Decline at Nashville Hospital

Dolly Parton's cause of death has been confirmed to be from cancer hours after the actress' passing was announced by a family member on Tuesday, August 25.

In a statement to TMZ, reps for Parton revealed she was "surrounded by loved ones at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville when she died."

The "Jolene" singer's reps remembered the country music icon as someone who spent her life bringing "joy, laughter, hope and integrity" to everything she touched, mentioning Parton's dedication to philanthropy for her Imagination Library support of medical research.

Parton's death was reportedly a shock to family members — even ones that knew she was suffering from health issues.

According to insiders, it was known among Parton's inner circle that she was sick, however, most believed she would overcome her health woes.

Instead, Parton was hospitalized for just four days before she devastatingly died at the age of 80. Her death followed a slew of health woes — including recent hospitalizations for kidney and an autoimmune issues.

One source told the news outlet that loved ones "began rushing to Nashville to be by her side" after learning the 9 to 5 star had been hospitalized last week and "wasn't doing well."

"They did not expect she would die during this hospital stay, believing she would recover and be released as she had following past health setbacks," the insider noted.

Parton's death was announced by her nephew Bryan Seaver on Tuesday afternoon in a nearly three-minute video shared to the "I Will Always Love You" singer's social media profiles.

"I am representing the Parton and Owens family today, announcing the passing of my Aunt Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean. Sister, sis, aunt, granny to one generation and Gigi to the next," the son of Dolly's sister Cassie Parton began.

Bryan added, "This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago, before I fully absorbed it as a future reality. As her head of security for more than two decades, a role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined the heaviness of this moment but haven’t truly felt it until now."

Celebrities quickly took to social media to honor Dolly with sorrowful statements after her death.
