Dolly Parton Seemed in High Spirits While Making Her Final Appearance Days Before Death

Dolly Parton seemed to be in high spirits just days before her heartbreaking death on Tuesday, August 25.

The country icon, who passed away at age 80, appeared virtually to accept the ACM Poet’s Award at the ACM Honors on August 19, which marked her final appearance.

"I just want to send a very special thank you to the Academy of Country Music for honoring me with the Poet’s Award," Parton expressed in a video message posted via Instagram last week. "You know, I’ve been able to do many things throughout my life, but at my core, songwriting has always been the most important part of who I am creatively."

"Every dream I ever had, and all the dreams that I’ve been able to see come true in life, well, they all started with a song. Songwriting has been my therapy,” the "Jolene" singer added. "Songwriting has been my release, my joy. Songwriting has been a gift from God that has allowed me to touch people with words and music."

The 10-time Grammy winner sat down in the video wearing a long-sleeved cream top. Her famous blonde hair was pinned in a messy updo for the virtual appearance.

The ACM Awards' official Instagram captioned the post, "The poet herself. 🤍 A storyteller, a true original and one of Country Music’s most beloved voices. Tonight, we celebrate @dollyparton and her ACM Poet’s Award."

Her sudden passing was announced by her nephew Bryan Seaver, the son of Dolly's sister, Cassie Parton, in a video posted to Dolly's social media account.

The legendary singer and songwriter died peacefully in Nashville, Tenn., according to a press release.

"I am representing the Parton and Owens family today, announcing the passing of my Aunt Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean," Bryan said. "Sister, sis, aunt, granny to one generation and Gigi to the next. This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago."

An official cause of death has not been released publicly.

Dolly's immediate family will hold a small, private ceremony for the country star, with fans and friends encouraged to leave a message at www.dollyparton.com.

Prior to her passing, Dolly had already been dealing with health problems.

Last year, the singer shared that her six-date "Dolly: Live in Las Vegas" event at Caesars Palace's Colosseum would be postponed because her digestive and immune systems were "all out of whack."

"The good news is I'm responding really well to meds and treatments, and I'm improving every day," Dolly said. "The bad news is, it's gonna take me a little while before I'm up to stage performance level because some of the meds and treatments make me a little bit 'swimmy headed' as my grandma used to say."

Donald Trump ordered the lowering of all American flags across the nation following her death.

The president quickly released a statement that read: "Very sad to report that Dolly Parton, one of the greatest Country singers, and far beyond, EVER, has just passed away. This is a true loss for millions of people."

"There has never been anyone like her, and never will. In her honor, I am lowering the American flag throughout the United States for a one week period beginning tonight at 6:00PM. Rest in Peace, Dolly! The World loves you. President DONALD J. TRUMP," the message concluded.
