Donald Trump Orders Lowering of American Flags in Honor of Dolly Parton After Her 'Sad' Death: 'This Is a True Loss for Millions of People'

Donald Trump ordered for the lowering of all American flags across the nation following the death of country music icon Dolly Parton.

The president was quick to release a statement after the legendary singer died at age 80 on Tuesday, August 25.

"Very sad to report that Dolly Parton, one of the greatest Country singers, and far beyond, EVER, has just passed away. This is a true loss for millions of people," Trump wrote in a post shared to Truth Social moments after her death was announced by a family member.

"There has never been anyone like her, and never will. In her honor, I am lowering the American flag throughout the United States for a one week period beginning tonight at 6:00PM. Rest in Peace, Dolly! The World loves you. President DONALD J. TRUMP," the Republican leader's message concluded.

Trump's social media statement followed Parton's nephew, Bryan Seaver, the son of her sister Cassie Parton, confirming her passing on the "Jolene" hitmaker's profile.

"I am representing the Parton and Owens family today, announcing the passing of my Aunt Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean. Sister, sis, aunt, granny to one generation and Gigi to the next," her nephew said in the nearly 3-minute clip.

"This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago, before I fully absorbed it as a future reality. As her head of security for more than two decades, a role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined the heaviness of this moment but haven’t truly felt it until now," he emotionally shared.

Bryan continued: “It is an honor, an honor that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness. But sadness lies with us, not with Dolly. Dolly has lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus, surely met by [her late husband] Carl [Thomas Dean], her parents and countless others who have watched her and longed to meet her in the heavens."

Dolly's late husband, Carl Dean, died at age 82 in March 2025 — less than two years before the "I Will Always Love You" singer's passing.

Dolly and Carl were married for 59 years before his death last year. The husband and wife never welcomed children together throughout their decades-long marriage.

During a 2020 episode of Apple TV+’s The Oprah Conversation, Dolly opened up to Oprah Winfrey about why kids were never in the cards for her and Carl.

“I didn’t have children because I believed that God didn’t mean for me to have kids so everybody’s kids could be mine, so I could do things like Imagination Library, because if I hadn’t had the freedom to work, I wouldn’t have done all the things I’ve done,” she said at the time.

“I wouldn’t be in a position to do all of the things I’m doing now," Dolly noted.
