ABC recently announced the development of a new Grey’s Anatomy spinoff set in rural Texas, adding to the franchise’s impressive lineage.
Since its debut in 2005, Grey’s Anatomy has focused on the intricate personal and professional lives of surgical interns, residents, and attendings at the fictional Seattle Grace Hospital.

In May, ABC confirmed the straight-to-series order for the new Texas-based spinoff. This series will be co-created, written and executive produced by Shonda Rhimes and Meg Marinis, the current showrunner of Grey’s Anatomy. Ellen Pompeo, a prominent figure in the original series, will also serve as an executive producer. The new show is slated to premiere in midseason 2027.

“I am incredibly excited to expand the Grey’s Anatomy universe,” Marinis stated.
She expressed her gratitude to Rhimes for developing such a dynamic world and emphasized that the new series would introduce fresh characters and stories while retaining the emotional depth that has resonated with audiences for over two decades. The show will likely connect to Grey’s through existing characters, such as Debbie Allen’s Catherine Fox.
Ellen Pompeo will also serve as an executive producer on the Texas-based medical drama.
A closer look at the Grey’s Anatomy spinoffs reveals the franchise's expanded reach. The initial spinoff, Private Practice, aired from 2007 to 2013 and centered on Dr. Addison Montgomery, played by Kate Walsh. This series depicted her transition from Seattle Grace Hospital to a private practice at Seaside Health & Wellness Center.
Another notable spinoff, Station 19, focused on the lives of firefighters at Seattle Fire Station 19 and featured Jason George from Grey’s. This series ran from 2018 to 2024, showcasing the challenges faced by the firefighters in a dynamic and thrilling environment.
