Jake Reiner Says He 'Will Never Understand' Parents' 'Infuriating' Murders as Brother Nick Reiner Faces Trial in California

Jake Reiner is opening up about his parents' alleged murder at the hands of his brother, Nick Reiner.

Talking to KABC-TV’s Marc Cota-Robles on Thursday, Jake said, “I’ll never understand. I don’t care how it’s explained to me. I don’t care what facts come out. I will never understand why this happened.”

Jake and Nick's parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner, were killed in their California home in December 2025. Nick, who was their middle child, was arrested for the murders.

Jake, the late couple's eldest child, said, “It manifests into rage, into how unfair this was, how I didn’t get a say in what happened. I didn’t get to stop it from happening.”

“I had no choice in the matter,” the 35-year-old continued. “I just have to accept the reality of it. And to me, that is just one of the most infuriating parts of all of this.”

While Jake spoke about the “surreal” crime scene, he reportedly turned down multiple questions about Nick’s ongoing trial. He did, however, confirm that he has not spoken to his sibling.

Jake has also not attended any of Nick's court appearances and has refused to comment on the 32-year-old’s attempt to access their family trust.

When asked if it was “ever a fear … that something like this could happen, that [Nick] was capable,” Jake smiled, replying, “I don’t think I want to answer that one.”

However, he did say, “I mean, he’s in jail so… you know, it’s like I physically lost my parents, and then Nick was arrested, and now it’s just me and Romy [Reiner].”

Besides this, Jake also reminisced about Rob and Michele's “unconditional love” that they had for their children. They were 78 and 70, respectively, at the time of their death.

“I can tell you they never stopped wanting to help him,” he said of Nick, who struggled with drug abuse and was diagnosed with schizophrenia. “They never stopped helping him.”

Jake also called Becoming Charlie, a 2015 flick loosely based on Nick’s life, “a way for [Rob] to try and connect with” his son.

Meanwhile, Jake and Romy, the late Reiner's third child and 28-year-old daughter, threw the ceremonial first pitches at the Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Boston Red Sox game earlier this month in memory of their late parents.

Romy hasn't commented publicly about the tragedy.
