Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner's eldest son, Jake Reiner, spoke out about their sudden deaths in his first sit-down interview since his parents passed away.

Rob and Michele were fatally stabbed in their Brentwood, Calif., home on December 14. Now their son, Nick Reiner, is standing trial for two counts of first-degree murder in relation to their deaths.

"It’s been eight months," Jake told KABC-TV’s Mark Cota-Roble during the interview, which will air the evening of August 27. “It feels like eight years at the same time. And it also feels like eight minutes.”

"Every moment that I wake up, I’m reminded of my reality," he added.

Jake Reiner recalled the moment he received the phone call about his parents' deaths.

The writer and producer reflected on losing almost his entire family in one fell swoop, leaving him and his younger sister Romy to pick up the pieces.

"I'll never understand. I don't care how it's explained to me," he stated. "I don't care what facts come out. I will never understand why this happened."

His brother, Nick, was arrested shortly after his parents were found dead and has pleaded not guilty to charges relating to their killings.

"I mean, he’s in jail, so...,” Jake shared. "You know, it’s...I physically lost my parents. And then Nick was arrested. And now it’s Romy and me. And we have to navigate this by ourselves essentially.”

Jake recalled receiving a phone call from his sister about the sudden tragedy.

"Romy told me our dad was dead and then she said, ‘I can’t find mom,'” he remembered. "I immediately went into shock."

Both siblings testified in Nick's pre-trial hearings on August 19. Prosecutors have alleged that the man stabbed both of his parents in the early morning hours of December 14 before fleeing the premises and being detained near the University of Southern California.

Jake Reiner said his parents' killings left him and his sister all alone.

Jake did, however, explain how he has been processing his unimaginable grief.

"For me, it manifests into anger. It manifests into rage, into how unfair this was, how I didn't get a say in what happened," he expressed. "I didn't get to stop it from happening. I had no choice in the matter."

"I just have to accept the reality of it," he concluded. "And to me, that is just one of the most infuriating parts of all of this."
