Jelly Roll Says Dolly Parton 'Might Be The Last American That Everyone Liked' as He Honors Her Legacy

Jelly Roll heaped praise on Dolly Parton while honoring her legacy in his tribute to her.

On Tuesday night, while guest-hosting on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Roll brought up the late legend's passing in the middle of his monologue, noting that we lost a "legend" and an "inspiration to so many," calling her "the last American that everyone liked."

Acknowledging the "Jolene" singer during his monologue, he said, “On a serious note, speaking of country music, I do want to mention the big story on everyone’s heart and mind. We lost a legend today, the great Dolly Parton.”

“She was such an inspiration to so many, myself included,” he added. “We’re both from Tennessee, and she meant a lot to my family, y’all. We used to sit around the kitchen table and listen to her music together as a family. I’ll never forget it.”

Parton passed away on August 25, aged 80, after a brief battle with cancer, though the type of cancer was not disclosed.

She took her last breaths at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, surrounded by loved ones, after being admitted there four days earlier.

Roll continued praising Parton, saying, “I learned so much from Dolly over the years about songwriting, how to handle this crazy business, and how to support your community. So, I want to send my love to East Tennessee and Sevier County right now. Representing her.”

The 41-year-old country star then went on to offer a message directly to Parton and her home state, saying, “We love you, Dolly, and we miss you. She was infinitely talented. She was relentlessly funny and adored by all,” he said. “She might be the last American that everyone liked. We will miss her dearly.”

“Rest in peace, Dolly. We will always love you,” he wrapped up his tribute, referencing the late singer's hit song, “I Will Always Love You.”

He closed the tribute by quoting the late country singer: “If you see someone without a smile today, give them yours.”

“So, I’m going to do as Dolly did and try to put a smile on your face right now with something extremely stupid,” Roll added.
