The Queen of Pop, 63, has been auditioning a slew of actresses to play her — Euphoria’s Alexa Demie and Ozark star Julia Garner are said to be at the top of the short list — “and she’s been putting them through the wringer,” the insider dishes. “They’ve got to read, sing and dance for her and even do a choreography boot camp.”
As for penning the screenplay, “after the deadline flew by, Madonna hired a new writer and then reconceived the film from the ground up,” the insider continues. "The studio wants something simple, but she’s going for something a lot more artsy."
While the mom of six is still set to direct, "this project has been in development for two years and it's not even close to getting off the ground," scoffs the insider. "It's baffling that Madonna can't get her act together ether — and worse, she’s making it torture for everyone else.”
As OK! exclusively reported, the "Hung Up" singer has been dead set on making sure the film about her life will be a success. “Madonna has put everything in her music career on hold to completely focus for the next year making her upcoming biopic the perfect Oscar movie,” an insider revealed last year.
“In Madonna's mind, she has accomplished everything to the highest standard aside from film. She knows that directing her biopic could be her last chance for Oscar gold," the source dished of the pop superstar's passion project.
“She plans on throwing the most epic Oscar Party next year to make sure she charms the voters for the following year when her film will be eligible," the insider spilled. “She’s pulling out all the stops and will use every ounce of her power to make it happen."
