June "Mama June" Shannon's former boyfriend Geno Doak is opening up about his recent overdose and how the TV personality assisted him in getting help.
According to TMZ, the reality star's ex overdosed on drugs and booze in September 2021 after drinking "a bunch of liquor" and taking 90 blood pressure pills.
In a video obtained by the outlet, Doak described the overdose as "attempted suicide." He recalled making the "conscious decision" to try and end his own life after thinking "I don't wanna be here," as he explained he had been miserable for a long time.
"I was in a really dark spot," he admitted. Though his suicide attempt happened around the time the former flames called it quits, Doak insisted the incident was not "directly related to June," as his personal problems "had been building up for over a year."
According to the outlet, a friend was at Doak's house the night he popped all of the pills and noticed the empty bottle. His pal called 911, and Doak was ultimately saved by paramedics before ending up in a mental facility.
"When I got out of the mental facility, June came to the house to get some of her things that she had left there, so during that time we were talking about my suicide attempt and me feeling the way I was, and she was asking me, 'Well what are you gonna do?'" he recalled.
Doak said he opened up to Mama June at the time, telling her "I'm not in a good spot" and that he needed to get back into rehab. In response, the former Here Comes Honey Boo Boo star helped refer him to a treatment center in South Carolina.
"She ended up making that connection and assisted me in getting up here," he explained.

Mama June and Doak — who began dating in 2015 — were both struggling with substance abuse before making the decision to get clean. However, they ended up calling things off in August 2021 after Doak began drinking a lot while she was still clean, according to TMZ.
Also in August 2021, Doak was sentenced to 16 months following his 2019 arrest for felony drug possession; however, he was not forced to be physically behind bars for the sentence, according to the outlet. Mama June — who was also arrested in 2019 — was sentenced to community service instead of serving jail time.
Geno told the outlet that he has not been in contact with his ex since late September in order to "help me with my recovery and my mental state."
