The film is about Stuart Long who turned to boxing while in a Catholic college for release, but his career did not take off due to a broken jaw. He then moved to Los Angeles, Calif., to pursue an acting career, which also did not pan out after a motorcycle accident. Long then had an out-of-body experience in the hospital and rediscovered his faith, but was diagnosed with a rare degenerative muscle disease while studying and was on crutches by the time he was ordained.
