Michael Jackson's Son Prince Makes Rare Appearance to Celebrate Late Father's 68th Birthday

Prince Jackson is keeping his late father Michael Jackson's legacy close as he marks what would have been the King of Pop's 68th birthday.

On Saturday, August 29, Michael's eldest son made a rare public appearance in Las Vegas for a special celebration at Cirque du Soleil's Michael Jackson ONE show at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.

According to a news outlet, Prince stood among a packed crowd of Michael's fans before raising his right hand and joining them in a heartfelt birthday tribute.

"Happy birthday, Michael!" the crowd shouted, per a video.

Prince wasn't the only one remembering Michael this weekend.

On August 30, Michael's daughter Paris Jackson surprised fans by releasing two new songs through Republic Records: “the breeze” and “just me and you.”

“It’s not a tribute. It’s not a commemoration. It’s not a demonstration of any kind. It is a letter. It is a poem of the sonic variety. It is my honest experience — with love, loss and para-social relationships vs a personal one,” Paris wrote in the caption of her Instagram post, adding a baby photo of herself.

The new music arrived just weeks after Paris opened up about her relationship with her father during an August 12 appearance on Alex Cooper's “Call Her Daddy” podcast.

While remembering Michael, Paris described the bond they shared in simple terms.

"Really funny guy," she reflected. "That was my best friend! I was definitely daddy’s little princess!"

Paris has also previously opened up about what life was really like growing up as one of Michael's children.

Although Neverland Ranch in Los Olivos, Calif., was known for its enormous property, private theme park and lavish attractions, Paris said she and her brothers, Prince and Bigi, didn't simply spend their childhood playing there.

Michael's nearly 3,000-acre estate featured a massive mansion and a private amusement park where the singer was known to welcome young visitors.

However, Paris clarified that she only spent part of her early childhood at the property.

"I didn't grow up there," the musician clarified. "It was only the first few years of my life that I was there."

According to Paris, Michael maintained a structured routine for his children.

"I'd wake up, and I'd go to school," she recalled. "I'd wake up, and we would go to the room that was our classroom and we would go to school."

"You do your chores, and you do your homework, and you do the things that you're supposed to do, then on the weekends you can go see some animals, and you can go ride some rides, and you can go to the movies," she explained. "It was made very, very clear that all of the attractions there were not for us, that did not belong to us."

She also explained why the attractions were there in the first place.

"That was for, you know, underprivileged children and children that were terminally ill that couldn't go to like Disneyland," she added.

Michael died in 2009 when Paris was just 11 years old. Following his death, she and her brothers were placed under the legal guardianship of their grandmother, Katherine Jackson, at the Jackson Family Compound.
