Monica Lewinsky became internationally known in 1998 after her relationship with then-President Bill Clinton was revealed publicly.

Lewinsky was just 21 when she began an unpaid White House internship in 1995 under Chief of Staff Leon Panetta.

Several months into the internship, she began a sexual relationship with Clinton. Details about the relationship later became public, including information from secretly recorded conversations made by Linda Tripp, according to CNN.

Later that year, Lewinsky moved into a paid position in the White House Office of Legislative Affairs, where part of her job involved delivering mail to the Oval Office.

Over the years, however, Lewinsky has pushed back against the idea that she was simply an inexperienced young woman who happened to land in the White House.

‘I Wasn’t a B----’

Monica Lewinsky has spoken about how the media portrayed her as unintelligent despite her professional experience at the White House and Pentagon.

While speaking on Elizabeth Day’s “How To Fail” podcast, Lewinsky explained that her professional background was more extensive than the public image created around her suggested.

“My very first job out of college was working in the White House. I don't think that that's the kind of trajectory that someone thinks then 10, 12 years later, that person's not going to be able to get hired,” she vented. “Then I worked in the Pentagon as well and travelled the world with my boss, who is the Pentagon spokesman, and we traveled with the Secretary of Defense.”

Lewinsky also spoke about how difficult it was to see herself reduced to a stereotype in the aftermath of the scandal.

“I'm by no means a genius, by no means going to be the cream of the crop, but I wasn't a bimbo. I wasn't a dumb b----,” she continued. “So I was portrayed to be, and that was a big struggle for me to deal with that.”
