Princess Diana's Off-The-Record Conversation Prior To Prince Charles Divorce Reveals Royal Thought 'She Would Be Gagged' After Split, Unearths New Doc

According to the documentary, despite the risks, Diana was desperate to get her story out before her pending divorce. She explained her difficult situation to Bond in an alleged private conversation revealed in this special for the first time.

"Diana told me that she feared that as part of the divorce settlement she felt was coming, she would be gagged," claims Bond, a correspondent from 1989-2001. "She would be prohibited from talking publicly about the marriage in any way. It was then or never."

A stunned nation watched as Diana would go on to pour her heart out on national television. She revealed a royal marriage in crisis, infidelities on both sides and a sense of personal misery that made her incredibly sick. The interview with Bond, conducted in secrecy, according to the REELZ doc, "affected public perceptions of the monarchy and prompted a constitutional crisis."

The explosive documentary reveals that Princess Diana had a key concern.

“...The princess had expressed one major reservation, and that was that if this became known to Buckingham Palace, Buckingham Palace would find a way of stopping it,” says Richard Ayre, BBC controller of editorial policy from 1993-1996.
