REELZ Explores 'Batman to Wonder Woman: TV's Favorite Superheroes' In New Documentary Featuring Exclusive Interview With Adam West
Before his 2017 death, Batman’s Adam West opened up in an exclusive interview for REELZ's Batman to Wonder Woman: TV’s Favorite Superheroes on how he made the iconic character his own.
"They wanted it very straight and Lone Ranger, kind of thing and nothing behind the mask. I couldn't do that. I felt that Batman is a very interesting character, but even comedically, as the Bright Knight, and not the Dark Knight, you had to have fun with it," West reveals. "In the ’60’s the three B’s: Bond, Beatles and Batman — and I thought, 'My God, I’m a part of that trio.'"
However, he also butt heads with producer William "Bill" Dozier, who hoped to keep his actor in line despite West's rise in popularity. "When I was on the cover of Life magazine, he called me into the office, he threw the magazine down on his desk in front of me and I just stood there and looked at him with a little grin," West recalled, "And he said, 'Oh, wait a minute, don't forget there have been 12 Tarzans, Adam."
