Royal Family Honors Dolly Parton in Emotional 'Changing of the Guard' Tribute at Buckingham Palace by Playing '9 to 5'

The royal family paid a touching tribute to the late, great Dolly Parton on Wednesday, August 26, during the Changing of the Guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

The military band played the country music icon's hit 1980 track “9 to 5" a day after she passed away in Nashville at the age of 80.

King Charles and Queen Camilla shared a video from the event on social media and also honored Parton with a sweet homage.

"Remembering the late, great Dolly, who brought joy, comfort and inspiration to so many — including the millions of children given free books through her Imagination Library,” their caption said. “We will always ❤️ you."

The Steel Magnolias alum has actually crossed paths with the royal family on a previous occasion. In 1977, Parton met Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip at an event in Glasgow, Scotland, to celebrate the monarch's Silver Jubilee.

The bash was held to commemorate the queen's quarter-century on the British throne.

Parton looked back on the momentous occasion in 2020, telling Evening Times it was "one of the biggest thrills of my life."

“When they told me on the plane I was appearing in front of the queen, I just jumped up and down telling everyone," the "Jolene" crooner recalled.

“When I was a little girl, I grew up in a world of kings and queens and princes and princesses in fairy tales. Now I’m going to meet one," she continued.

Parton also discussed meeting the sovereigns in 2023, and divulged to Insider how "nervous" she was to talk to them.

"I was scared to death that I was not going to know how to curtsy, that I wasn't going to bend right, but she was just very warm, very sweet, and I could tell she was a very giving person," she disclosed.

Parton was brought to Nashville's Vanderbilt University Medical Center on August 21 to be treated for kidney and autoimmune issues.

Her health then took a turn for the worst and she died at the hospital on Tuesday, August 25. Her cause of death was due to a "brief battle with cancer," a statement from her rep said.

According to TMZ, the Grammy winner's passing was unexpected as her family rushed to be by her bedside. However, some of her loved ones were reportedly not able to make it to Nashville in time to say their final goodbyes.
