Oh, Canada! Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling are finally making good on their long-held plan to leave Los Angeles for a life in the Great White North, dishes a source.
The 47-year-old and Gosling, 40 — who share Esmeralda, 7, and Amada, 5 — “have always avoided the public eye, but they want even more privacy now that the girls are getting older,” explains the source. “Ryan’s home turf is the perfect place for them to grow up away from the spotlight.”
While The Notebook star, who took a hiatus from filming after starring in 2018’s First Man, has a full slate of projects ahead, Mendes “has zero interest in Hollywood anymore,” notes the source, pointing out that she hasn’t made a movie in seven years. “Eva’s only interest right now is being a mom, and Ryan totally supports her.”
Plus, when Gosling wraps his latest commitment — he just signed on to play Ken in the new Barbie flick — “he’ll take another extended break,” spills the source, adding, it's "the perfect time to make a move.”

The wheels are already in motion. According to the source, the lovebirds — who hooked up in 2011 after meeting on set of The Place Beyond the Pines — “have started looking at properties, mostly in Ontario,” near where the actor grew up.
While they’ll still keep a spot in Los Angeles, “Eva and Ryan have agreed they want their main base to be Canada,” adds the source. “They can’t think of a better place to raise their family.”
Last year, Mendes made it clear that home is wherever Gosling is. The Hitch actress took to Instagram in October 2020 to share a throwback photo of herself running on the beach that she captioned, "Haven’t seen a beach this year. Haven’t been on a run this year."
When a wise-cracking fan commented, "You need to tell Ryan to get you out more," Mendes responded, "No thank you, I'm good. Rather be home with my man than anywhere else in the world."
