Sean Penn Hits Red Carpet With Daughter Dylan After Facing Backlash For Controversial COVID-19 Vaccine Statements
A family affair!
The Milk star believes that Americans should be forced to have the vaccine. “This is one of those things that should be mandatory,” he told Yahoo Entertainment on Tuesday, August 10. “I think that vaccines need to be mandatory and that businesses — the movie business and all businesses — need to take the lead and not be so timid when dealing with their collective bargaining partners.”
The 60-year-old A-lister compared the vaccine to driver’s licenses, noting it’s “no different than having everybody being able to drive 100 miles an hour in a car.”
Madonna’s ex-husband said he’s become increasingly annoyed with the resistance he’s seen amongst some in the U.S. to get the vaccine that is readily available to them. "That's part of why I think it should be mandatory," Penn continued. "A resistance that's just based on a certain kind of... lack of imagination and understanding of anything that's helpful to the human race, I've become very frustrated by that.”
The Mystic River star has reportedly refused to show up to the set of his upcoming Starz series Gaslit until everyone involved with the project has been vaccinated.
Following his strong words regarding the vaccine, users flocked to social media to slam the actor, with some calling for a boycott of his work. “I refuse to watch anything with Sean Penn in it. Who will say the same?,” one user tweeted, while another wrote: “I love how ‘celebrities’ actually think the rest of us care what they think.”
