Sheriff Country's Matt Lauria Teases Mickey and Boone's Romantic Future Ahead of Season 2

Fans of Sheriff Country are left wondering about the romantic future of Mickey and Boone as the show gears up for its second season.

The season 1 finale, which aired on May 22, concluded with significant emotional developments for Mickey (Morena Baccarin). Her feelings for Boone (Matt Lauria) seemed more evident after he experienced a critical injury while on duty. However, Boone appeared unaware of Mickey’s growing affection and seemed to move on.

“You’re asking me questions that are so far above my pay grade,” Lauria remarked in an exclusive interview with Us Weekly regarding the on-screen couple’s prospects in the upcoming season.

He emphasized the importance of emotional trust between the characters, stating, “The emotional proximity and the trust [between them] is everything. That is what burns so much toward the end of the season.”

Showrunner Matt Lopez provided insights into the emotional complexity surrounding Mickey’s character at the end of season 1.

He pointed out the deep-rooted friendship between Mickey and Boone, explaining, “There’s just this intimacy that gets forged.” Lopez elaborated, indicating that Mickey struggles with her feelings, questioning her choices: “Did I walk past a diamond to pick up a piece of coal?”

As season 2 approaches, Lopez hinted at new dynamics that could influence the couple’s relationship.

He mentioned the introduction of a medical examiner character who shares chemistry with Boone. “Did Mickey perhaps miss her opportunity? Was there a door opened for a split second and is it now closed?” Lopez stated, suggesting that the tension regarding their relationship will persist in the upcoming season.

The showrunner also acknowledged the desires of the fans, noting that opinions vary on the pacing of Mickey and Boone's romance. “People send me these posts on Reddit and stuff, and even the fans who want them to get together are like, ‘But I hope it doesn’t happen too soon,’” Lopez reported.

Lauria expressed optimism about Boone’s character development in season 2. He stated, “Boone is embracing Edgewater for all that it is,” indicating that this journey allows him to confront his feelings for Mickey. Lauria also hinted at more depth to Boone’s character, revealing, “He kept a lot of things close to the vest—including a secret wife.”
