Simon Cowell's Relationship With Fiancée Lauren Silverman Was In 'Crisis' Before Engagement: 'There Was Misery,' Spills Source

While Simon Cowell and fiancée Lauren Silverman are planning to spend the rest of their lives together after the TV personality reportedly got down on one knee on Christmas Eve, an insider is now hinting the 62-year-old may have only made the milestone declaration to save their relationship.
"Around Christmas I know that she was talking about it, and he was refusing," spilled a source to The Post, per Page Six, about the two taking the next step. "They had reached a difficult point in the relationship — you might call it a crisis. There was misery."
"Perhaps she had made it clear that she was not going to stick around unless they got married," the insider reportedly suggested.
Though Silverman had been waiting a long time for a ring on that finger, it was reported, Cowell made it clear in the past that he's not a fan of matrimony.

Nevertheless, Cowell reportedly purchased a diamond jewel for the brunette beauty and proposed not long after their son, Eric, now seven years old, was born. "I know that Simon got her an engagement ring about a year after the pregnancy was announced," said the source, "but he then put it away in a safe and made it clear that he didn’t want to get married after all."
"She’s a nice middle-class girl and she always wanted to get married. Her mum said that she trusted Simon to 'do the right thing’ before Eric was born," the insider reportedly continued. "Well, she's been waiting a long time — and so has Lauren."
Apart from making his soon-to-be wife happy, a longtime colleague of the formerThe X-Factor judge explained the engagement is also, in a big away, about their son. "Everything he does now is about Eric and his legacy," the colleague maintained. "He wants to give Eric legitimacy."
Cowell and Silverman's relationship began in 2004, when she was still married to her first husband, Andrew Silverman, per the outlet. The socialite and the New York real-estate mogul share 16-year-old son Adam. The former flames eventually divorced after her pregnancy with Cowell's child was revealed in 2013.
