Stephen Colbert’s former writers reunited for a comedy night at WeHo Bistro.

Stephen Colbert’s former writers are getting one more night under The Late Show sign.
Members of the writing team from The Late Show with Stephen Colbert are set to perform an “intimate evening of comedy” at WeHo Bistro in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 6, more than three months after the CBS show aired its final episode.
The team performed beneath ‘The Late Show' sign purchased at auction by the restaurant’s owner.
The setting comes with a very specific piece of late-night history. WeHo Bistro owner Jeff Douek recently bought The Late Show’s old sign at auction for $102,100 and installed it at his La Cienega restaurant, which regularly hosts comedy events.
No ticket is required for the writers’ show, according to Time Out, though tables in the atrium are expected to fill quickly so reservations are recommended.
Back Under the Sign
The event marked another public appearance for the writers after the show’s cancelation.
The reunion gives the former Late Show writers a public-facing gig after CBS ended the franchise earlier this year. The final episode aired May 21, closing out Colbert’s run behind the desk and leaving the show’s staff looking for what came next.
Douek told CBS News he bought the sign because Colbert’s show had meant that much to him.
“Every night, I’d listen to him and Jon Stewart before going to bed, and they digested the crazy world around us, and it made me sleep better,” Douek said. “Because instead of just listening to the news, I could laugh about it, and so he changed my life.”
Proceeds from the sign sale were donated to World Central Kitchen, one of Colbert’s favorite charities.

The Writers Stay Busy
Stephen Colbert’s former staff also secured a high-profile writing gig for the Emmy Awards.
The WeHo Bistro event is not the only post-Late Show booking for the team. Emmys host Mariska Hargitay previously revealed that Colbert’s former writers would be working on this year’s ceremony, giving the staff another high-profile assignment after the cancelation.
Before that announcement, the writers also launched their own Emmys campaign, criticizing CBS for leaving them in limbo after the show was axed.
The comedy reunion kept the former ‘Late Show’ team connected to its late-night legacy.
The cancelation came as Skydance, a company seen as friendly to President Donald Trump, was acquiring CBS parent company Paramount. Colbert had been openly critical of Trump and had called out Paramount on air over its $16.5 million settlement with the president just days before CBS announced the end of The Late Show franchise.
Colbert himself has kept a lower profile since the finale, though he recently appeared by video to accept the Television Critics Association’s award for Outstanding Achievement in Variety, Talk or Sketch on behalf of The Late Show, as well as his own Career Achievement Award.
