The journalist shocked co-hosts Dylan Dreyer and Craig Melvin with the announcement, which made for an adorable moment on the NBC TV show — and later when the clip was shared online, to fans' great delight.

During a Today show segment on August 31, presented by Ikeda, Dreyer and Melvin, sweet photos of Ikeda with her husband holding up ultrasound pictures came up on the screen.

"Oh my God! You're having a baby!" Melvin exclaimed, while Dreyer was pretty much speechless.

"For those at home, they legitimately don't know," Ikeda told viewers. "I'm literally surprising them right now."

"Wait, are you serious?" Dreyer asked.

Ikeda explained, "I'm five months pregnant, I'm due in January!"

Dreyer and Melvin then dissolved in heartfelt congratulations.

Afterwards, Melvin joked, "Our control room just pointed out that Emilie Ikeda is about to have... an I-kidda."

The presenters then poked fun at Al Roker who would typically be the one to make that kind of dad joke. "Where's Al? Did Al call in from Italy to say this?" Ikeda said.

After the show aired, the TV personality made her official announcement on Instagram, sharing the same pictures which appeared on the show.

"Bursting with gratitude… Praying for good health… And sharing with so much joy… that Baby is due in January 💛," she wrote.

Today stars rallied in the comments to warmly congratulate their colleague.

"Oh snap! I just saw you today!! I would have congratulated you! 👏👏🔥🔥🙌🙌" wrote Carson Daly.

"Oh my heart!!!!!! 🥹❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️," said Sheinelle Jones.

"So happy for you both!!!" commented Roker.

All of these TV stars understand what a momentous event this is, since they're all parents too: Melvin has two children, Dreyer has three with ex Brian Fichera, Roker has three, Daly has four, and Jones has three.

Emilie Ikeda is a first-time mom.

Ikeda married her husband, Pat, in 2022, and they're currently expecting their first child together.

Speaking to TODAY.com, the journalist further opened up about her pregnancy.

"My first trimester was really difficult," she shared. "I was incredibly nauseous, which can get complicated in a spontaneous job that has me chasing breaking news regularly."

Mentioning the fact that she managed not to throw up on a plane, she quipped, "There were some close calls!"
