A Distasteful Joke: Wendy Williams Slammed For 'Hateful' Segment On TikTok Star Swavy's Death
Wendy Williams may have taken it too far this time.
Fans are outraged by William’s distasteful coverage concerning the death of TikTok star Swavy, who died of a fatal gunshot wound on Monday, July 5.
During the Wednesday, July 7, episode of The Wendy Williams Show, the 56-year-old brought up the late 19-year-old during her “Hot Topics” segment.
“I have no idea who this person is...neither does one person in the building,” she began.
The talk show host went on to compare the amount of followers she has on social media to the TikTok creator's — in a bizarre attempt to make her audience laugh — before nonchalantly announcing that he had passed.
The nature of Williams’ coverage of Swavy’s death sent Twitter users into a frenzy.

“She is so hateful. Like, she basically treated the announcement of his death like it was funny gossip,” one fan wrote on Twitter. “Why disparage him? Why even talk about him at all if you and your audience are that removed from even knowing who he is?...She really coaxed laughter from the audience before announcing this young man’s murder.”
Another user tweeted, “We all know Wendy to be messed and with the s**ts, but this wasn’t cool at all. I don’t know this man, but may he rest in peace. I’m sorry his friends and family had to see this. Wow…”
Swavy — also known as Matima Miller — was gunned down in broad daylight on Monday in Wilmington, Delaware. He was “transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries,” according to the Wilmington Police Department report.
Despite Williams’ disrespectful quips about Swavy, many fans and friends took to social media to honor the young star.
YouTuber Mikula posted a video in tribute to his friend, where he broke down in tears and said, “I love you my n***a. Dead ass, bro. I know you can’t hear in the real world right now but you’re up there looking down. I’m about to go hard for you, bro...You were so innocent.”
Williams has not yet commented in response to the backlash.
